Notepads from single-sided misprints

Hero section image
Problem: When copying and printing, countless misprints are produced every day, the reverse sides of which end up unused in the paper waste. As a result, a lot of paper is wasted. At the same time, people with disabilities still have considerable problems finding a place in society. It is therefore all the more important to raise public awareness in both problem areas in order to draw attention to the high level of paper waste and social injustice. Our solution: In addition to paper collection boxes at the university, our team tries to systematically locate sources of large-scale paper waste in order to collect misprints for our upcycling process. In cooperation with the Elbewerkstätten Hamburg-Harburg, new notebooks are produced from the backs of the printed sheets, on which every second page can be written on. In this way, we want to contribute to raising awareness of the issues of wasting resources and inclusion as well as making our own contribution to offering sustainable solutions to the problems. Concept: The misprints are collected centrally and examined by us for sensitive information in order to rule out legal complications. The paper is then mixed and sent to the Elbewerkstätten. Here, the pads are bound and provided with a cover designed in cooperation with the design office "Redeleit und Junker", whereby the employees of the sheltered workshop can be present during the entire production process. Our products are distributed in various ways. In addition to private sales channels via retailers or online platforms, we also offer a B2B service in which company-specific editions are created. With this idea, we combine a social networking and support project with a sustainable approach to lifestyle in a social and entrepreneurial context.

Unity Cuisine

Cooking courses for companies run by migrants

Hero section image
Problem: Many migrants have been living in Germany for many years and still regularly encounter various forms of exclusion and lack of understanding. This is often due to a lack of contact between native speakers and migrants. This is where Unity Cuisine comes in and creates a meeting place for overlaps. Our solution: Together with migrants, we develop cooking courses for companies. Our cooking courses as team events promote intercultural exchange and help to develop a better understanding of each other. In this way, inequalities that increasingly exist in and outside the world of work can be better recognized and resolved. Last but not least, the cooking courses offer a space for our chefs to help shape and share experiences and perspectives. Concept: The central feature of Unity Cuisine is our team composition. We develop the concept for the cooking courses together with migrants. We receive support from the Utopia start-up center in Lüneburg. The cooking courses themselves are run by migrants and we provide support as enactees. The first trial cooking courses have already taken place and the first cooking courses with companies are in the starting blocks.

Reframe

Affordable Reading Glasses for Ghana

Hero section image
Problem: In Ghana, about 95% of people who need vision correction do not have access to glasses due to a lack of affordable eye care options. This issue is particularly severe in rural areas, where approximately 40% of the population lives with limited access to healthcare services. This leads to significant impairments in daily life, education, and work opportunities for those affected. Our Solution: At Reframe, we aim to solve this problem by purchasing reading glasses in large quantities and selling them at low cost to individuals and local institutions in Ghana. These glasses are distributed through trusted institutions such as churches, community hubs, and libraries that are deeply rooted in their communities. Our innovative lending model is designed to allow even those who cannot afford to buy glasses to improve their vision by borrowing them. Concept: Our concept is based on making reading glasses available not only for direct purchase by individuals but also through local institutions like libraries, community hubs, and churches. These institutions offer the glasses for loan, similar to books in a library. This ensures that even people with limited financial means have access to vision aids. Additionally, we plan to significantly undercut market prices to make the glasses as affordable as possible. Project Status: We are currently working on expanding our network in Ghana and preparing for the initial purchase, sale, and distribution of the glasses. In collaboration with Enactus teams in Ghana, we conducted a survey in which 10,000 people from various regions of Ghana were interviewed. This survey not only assessed willingness to pay but also collected data on the required diopter values, other vision issues, and specific needs in different areas. This data helps us tailor our offerings to the needs of the people on the ground and develop future plans for Reframe, such as introducing glasses for other visual impairments.

Luvva

Sensitization for Luvva sponges

Hero section image
Problem: We are currently facing the major problem of plastic pollution in our environment. In Germany alone, 5 million tons of plastic waste are produced every year, to which dishwashing sponges, and above all the microplastic abrasion caused by their use, contribute. But there is a solution to this problem: Our solution: We at Luvva want to counteract this problem with our project. The solution is ecological loofah sponges! Loofah sponges are made from overripe sponge gourds and can be used in a variety of ways: They can be used for cleaning, washing up, personal hygiene, as a soap dish or for many other purposes, replacing conventional plastic dishwashing sponges. Loofah sponges are not only completely plastic-free and biodegradable, but can also be washed in the washing machine at 60°C, making them much more durable than conventional sponges. Concept: Our Luvva sponges are grown in Greece in cooperation with a local farmer using biocyclic-vegan farming methods and in Germany with the help of local farms. With our project, we want to encourage people to make the world a little bit better - by not using plastic dishwashing sponges. Our aim is to create a more conscious approach to nature. And for this we need you, according to the motto - Together for a real impact! We want to be an integrative project and therefore process the products together with support workshops and refine them into unique items. In addition to cooperating with these workshops, we would also like to offer workshops on the topic of plastic and the production of a loofah sponge in educational institutions. In the product variation of a soap sponge, we collect soap scraps from cooperating hotels and give them a new life. We firmly believe that it is motivating to work together on a project and be part of something big. The more the spark of our enthusiasm spreads to other people, the better! Project status: We are currently in the process of using a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for the cultivation of our Luvva sponges and to find suitable cultivation partners here in Germany. We are currently in contact with a farmer in Greece from whom we can obtain Luvva sponges. We are already testing the cultivation with our own seeds at home and want to gather more information about the loofah plant and its growth behavior. We are also currently working on establishing contacts with extraction workshops for the further processing of our Luvva sponges and setting up an Instagram presence and our own website.
